Department of English:

Department of English has conducted many seminars in the current academic year.

A Webinar on “Women’s Writings” was conducted by the Department of English of Hirakud College on 27th of July, 2021. Dr. Manjushree Pradhan, the Principal of Hirakud College, Hirakud was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Pradhan encouraged the students to participate in such webinars in large numbers. She also traced the history of notable authors who made their mark in the society. Mrs. Aliva Sarangi, Former Lecturer in English, GMU was invited as the Chief Speaker in the event. Mrs. Sarangi delved deep into the life of Virginia Woolf and juxtaposed it with Woolf’s epoch making critical work A Room of One’s Own. Sri Rajesh Kumar Patra, Lecturer in English, Hirakud College, Hirakud addressed the meeting and presented his paper on “The Relevance of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre in the Contemporary Society”. A total of five students from the department presented papers in the webinar highlighting different aspects of the topic. Around fifty students and teachers from different colleges and universities attended the webinar and actively participated in the discussion. Mrs. Seemantika Das, the HOD of the Department of English, Hirakud College coordinated and ended the event with her Vote of Thanks where she expressed her gratitude to everyone for their spirited participation and cooperation

A Webinar on “Travel Writing” was conducted by the Department of English on 29th of June, 2021. Dr. A. K. Supakar, the Principal of Hirakud College, Hirakud was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Supakar encouraged the students to participate in such webinars in large numbers. Mrs. Geetanjali Birtia, Lecturer in English, Karanjia Autonomous College, Karanjia, Mayarbhanj was invited as the Chief Speaker in the event. Mrs. Birtia gave new insights into two texts prescribed for the Sixth Semester students under ‘Travel Writing’ i.e. A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid and On the Road by Jack Kerouac. A total of seven students from the department presented papers in the webinar highlighting different aspects of the topic. Students and teachers from different colleges and universities attended the webinar and actively participated in the discussion. The HOD of the Department of English, Mrs. Seemantika Das coordinated and ended the event with her Vote of Thanks where she expressed her gratitude to everyone for their spiriteda participation and cooperation.
